# Cambridge AS level Pure Maths 1 video course (code 9709)

Master the Cambridge International AS level Pure Maths 1 curriculum (code 9709) with our comprehensive video course:

• 70 guided lessons
• 200 face-to-face videos

## Our online study guide

Our online study guide for Pure Mathematics 1 will lead you step-by-step through the curriculum, helping you to master the concepts and skills required for the course.

We understand the needs of private candidates and homeschoolers, and have planned the course to cater for students who do not have access to an expert in maths. Key features of the course include:

• The curriculum is divided into manageable lessons which enable you to plan an effective study programme.
• Face-to-face videos - where you actually see your teacher - explain the concepts involved in each lesson. This allows you to repeat any explanation as often as you wish, until you grasp the concept being explained. There are just over 200 videos in total!
• Key definitions, formulae and procedures are highlighted so that you know exactly what the core concepts are.
• Exercises have been carefully selected from the text book so that you can build up your skills from the simple application of isolated concepts to the combined application of a number of skills in solving a complex problem. (Note that working through all the exercises provided in the text book is too time consuming for most students; it is therefore important to make a selection.)
• Detailed worked solutions are provided for (most of) the prescribed exercises, so that you are able to correct your work, evaluate your progress, and identify concepts and skills that still require more work. (This in itself is an extremely valuable tool, and one which is not easy to obtain anywhere.)
• Errors in the text book's answers are identified where necessary.

Our Pure Maths 1 course is based on the text book Pure Mathematics 1: Coursebook by Hugh Neill, Douglas Quadling and Julian Gilbey, revised edition (Cambridge University Press, 2016, ISBN 9781316600207). This book is endorsed by Cambridge International and includes a large number of exercises that will lead the student to the level of skill required by the Cambridge International curriculum.

Please look at our free lessons (indicated by * in the table of contents) to get an idea of how our study guide works.

## Worked solutions

Included in our course are worked solutions — 328 pages of them! — for the coursebook by Neill, Quadling and Gilbey. The worked solutions should be regarded as an integral part of the course, and offer a number of important benefits:

• The solutions are neatly typeset for easy reading.
• All chapters are combined into one pdf document with bookmarks to each chapter and exercise.
• Colour graphs and diagrams are included where helpful.
• The solutions enable you to correct your work and thus to evaluate your own progress. (Please take note of these comments in our "Preliminaries" article for this course; they explain how to evaluate your progress when marking your work.)
• They provide a model for how to approach mathematical problems in general, and the P1 questions in particular.
• They offer comments providing insight into the mathematical concepts and thought-patterns that are addressed in the exercises.
• They provide corrections where the answers printed in the text book are incorrect. (There are not all that many errors in the text book, though.)

Note that the worked solutions do not cover all of the exercises in the text book, but they do cover most of the exercises prescribed for this course. Where solutions are omitted for some exercises, we have tried at least to provide solutions for each different type of exercise.

You can obtain a free copy of the first three chapters of the worked solutions by clicking this button:

## Testimonials

Imago Education's videos were extremely helpful; they managed to explain the concepts in a different manner to the course book, which was often easier to understand. These additional explanations also never contradicted the information given in the course book, or caused unnecessary confusion. As a kinaesthetic learner, the videos also helped me to absorb information better because I could use more than one sense. In the videos you could also see how the teacher, Bruce, enjoys maths and teaching, often throwing in bits of information that made the work much more interesting.

The worked solutions were a great help in improving my maths, not only could I see exactly where I went wrong, but I could see how a skilled mathematician handled different problems.

The layout of the lessons really removed uncertainty from the subject, I knew exactly what was important and needed to be memorised, or what would definitely come up in the exam. The divisions of the lessons made working out a schedule much easier — sometimes differing from the text book in a helpful way.
