 Useful resources for chapter eight

The heart and the cardiac cycle

Mr Pollock: a good, comprehensive explanation of the heart and the cardiac cycle. He has a good explanation of the cardiac cycle pressure graph which will be useful for your exam.

How the heart works: a nice animation which shows how the heart in action. It helps you to get more a visual idea of the concepts you have been reading about. Good for brief revision or conceptualizing the information.

For extra interest . . .

If you are interested in medicine, this is an interesting technical video about what happens during a heart attack---when the cardiovascular system breaks down. It is interesting to see in this video how central the heart is to every other functioning of the body. Why exactly is this? Why does the brain, for example, die within minutes if the heart stops pumping? Remember to think in terms of the cellular processes.
